Happy Tuesday! What is everyone up to tonight? The hubby and I are playing tennis with friends. We bought tennis rackets at wal-mart last week ($19 each! woot!) and went to the park for an hour and attempted playing tennis for the first time in many years. Luckily the guys on the court beside us had plenty of patience, for all the balls that came flying their way and our constant ridiculous laughing & apologizing. The score was an even 2-2 for balls hit over and outside the fence court. Fun times :) Hoping for more to be had tonight (for us and for everyone else to have a great tuesday night!)

And now, on to the main point in this blog post. Meet newborn Wilder!

Sleeping like a baby…

love the hat!!

He woke up at one point and checked us out with just one eye… super cute!

Trying to get him to go back to sleep…awwwwwwwwwww…what a yawn!

Have fun tonight, whatever you do! Wouldn’t hurt to maybe throw in some time for praying for David & I, that we don’t twist an ankle or anything ;)

My Week: Fears & Wall Art. February 23, 2011

Our past week has been made up of:

  • David & I painting our house together. We are almost done with the outside trim! I spent an hour on the roof leaning over the edge to get the trim, due to David’s somewhat fear of heights…but hey, when he cleans the shower drains & unplugs the sink everytime for me, it’s totally worth it! The things you’ll do for one another ;) One day I’ll blog about my irrational fear of drains. And I’ll make it rational & perfectly normal, as unheard of as it is! You’ll see. Even while the first thing I do every single time I go to a swimming pool is locate the drain…it is a completely normal thing, that everyone but you (see the irony?) does. Really.*
  • Good, long talks together. These are my favorite :)
  • Not doing enough laundry & seeing it pile up. (this ones just me)
  • Watching David play basketball for hours with a bunch of the guys after Church…and hearing him complain the past two days about being really sore & sunburnt. We are planning to work out way more once he finishes his last online class & gets his Master’s Degree…in just six days!! Yayy!
  • Feeling overwhelmed & being reminded of who my Rock is.
  • Valentine’s Day Leftovers :)

David made me crackle cookies on Valentine’s Day. They are my absolute favorite cookies! If you’ve never had one, you must. They are like brownies in a cookie. Pure amazingness.

A week and a few days later, my roses from Valentine’s Day (delivered to me in the middle of my class last monday-so awesome & sweet!) are still going strong :)

  • On saturday morning, we went garage-sale-ing (yep, I turned it into a verb). It was something David & I hadn’t done together, and there was a really good community garage sale going on not far from us. We found some pretty sweet stuff for our first time – it was quite a successful morning of finding cute stuff for our house, which was my main goal when heading out at 7:20 AM on a saturday (who does that?)! Check it out:

How could I resist these cuuuuute placemats for $2?

And how about these adorable kitchen jars? 3 for $5.

Oh, & I didn’t count wrong. I actually bought 3 jars, and when I came home & un-wrapped them again, was pleasantly surprised to find a fourth jar tucked inside the biggest one! Yayy for the little things that can make our day even better. :)

$2 for this Christmas wreath. Now next year we’ll have one to hang on our front door :)

My second goal was to find wall art. We have plenty of picture frames, but not large ones, so on a big blank wall they would look like postage stamps. I was on a mission for some paintings. Our first acquirement, also for $2:

Our second acquirement was a bit more complicated. It was so huge, it almost didn’t fit in the back of my car. It couldn’t even fit in the trunk, we had to go for the backseat. There was not even one half-inch of space left when we closed the door (we were afraid it wouldn’t close!). This one cost us $15, but it was worth it for the frame alone. The picture is okay, though I’ll be on the lookout for something to replace it. In order to help you understand just how big (hmm..maybe it’s just big to me though, since I’m not a huge fan of going to museums, and therefore don’t see large paintings that often. Whatever, it’s a big painting to me!) this painting is, I put a small square kleenex box next to it (after failed attempts with an iPod & cup first.)

  • Monday night, we also went to HomeGoods to purchase some more wall art. We even went to two HomeGoods stores! Here are some of what we decided on. Love this one!

The following is my favorite.

How could we not have this hanging in our house somewhere?? It fits perfectly.

  • Last of all, David hung up our new clock in the Dining room. It was given to us as a wedding present, but unfortunately, we don’t know from whom! No one claimed it in their wedding card. We have the same problem with a beautiful small golden mirror. (Both of which we lugged from Canada to Mexico to Florida, with only one small casualty; the glass on the front of the clock got broken. But hey, I still love it, & it’s our first wall clock!) So if you gave either of these to us, please let me know! :)

Hope you have a great rest of the week, & get lots done. It’s my hope too!

*PS: I did some research. While Answers.com says this:

“There does not appear to be a scientific name to specifically describe the fear of drains.”

And appears to make my fear ridiculous & rare, I found it isn’t not common (yep, that’s me, making you have to think more):

http://www.unusualphobias.com/plugs.html

I scanned through a few of them & totally feel for the people who wrote the second one & the second-last one!

I am not alone!! :)

First time seeing snow. January 26, 2011

David & I went to New Jersey to visit my family last weekend – more of that in this post – and it was his real first time seeing snow (minus when he was a baby & too young to remember). I have some cute videos of his very first reaction & some snowball fights we had, on my point&shoot camera (which I forgot there but am getting soon) that I’ll put up sometime.

David’s thoughts on snow to one of the 9-year-old girls at Church last Sunday, who still hasn’t seen snow either: “It’s way even fluffier than it looks in pictures.”

Or something along that line. It was just very cute the way he said it to her :)

So by my parents house there was this really cool cement crumbling building. So we randomly had some fun – or atleast I did, shooting the pictures! I think David did as well…minus when I made him throw snow up in the air over 12 times  ;)

His smile looks really genuine here…it must’ve still been one of the first couple times he did it:

Isn’t he a cutie?

We had some fun with this building.

a LOT of fun. Especially since I only made him do this twice, and he was most willing:

There were also a ton of icicles hangin’ around. Yes, pun intended. My *ahem* lame attempts at humor are always labeled as ‘so cute’ (and followed by a kiss on the forehead for some reason) by my highly sarcastic husband. Sarcastic, as in his type of humor is full of sarcasm, not as in he was being sarcastic at my trying to be funny – just making sure thats clear. He loves me very much & wouldn’t ever do that. More like, he knows I don’t appreciate negative sarcasm & I probably would never attempt making a joke in front of him again, and he enjoys it waaay too much to discourage me.

Happy wednesday! :)

A New Jersey weekend. January 18, 2011

Today I feel like writing something filled with happiness.

David & I went to New Jersey to visit my family. A ‘second’ Christmas. And we most definitely had fun. It was my husband’s first time ever seeing snow…and he for sure got that facewash! Saturday we went skiing/snowboarding, my third time ever snowboarding. Even after an hour of group lessons, this is how I spent a good chunk of the day…

Yep, on my butt.

As well as a good twenty percent of the time was spent running into David, my family, and random people. And apologizing profusely.

My favorite part though by far, was getting off the lifts with my husband. Being a first-time skiier, and nervous about how to get on & off lifts…he took the majority of the landing pad up when getting off. In fact, the second or third time we did this, he got off a couple seconds before me, and I found my path quite blocked by a ski pole that was, unfortunately, tied around Davids wrist. Had I continued trying to get off, I would’ve ran over the pole, most like pulling it in some direction that wouldn’t have turned out well for David, being attached to it. So I waited another second…and then the lift started the fast dangerous u-turn to head around, with me still on it, and my choices became: bail off a quickly moving lift hoping to land in softish snow, or head on another ride, with everyone on the chair lifts headed up thinking I had wimped out; my knees weren’t too happy with me at my decision. David finally managed to stop (something he hadn’t quite picked up on yet, as apparently the instructor of the lessons only taught them how to turn) a good twenty feet away, turn around to see me half-sprawled on the ground way off course, and ask me innocently what had happened. Happy Jillian was not the one doing the explaining.

Unfortunately the following picture isn’t of the specific incident, but another attempt. Notice David’s wide armspread (and cute concentrated look!), please.

We also went tobogganing at the end of the day. My mom took this picture (as well as all the pictures):

And the next day & reason I took so many day to blog again (beyond this book I started reading & could hardly put down)? Well, that was spent taking care of a very sick David. Somehow he got something like the 24-hour flu. It was my first time taking care of him (other than a common cold)…he said I did a great job holding the bucket. I just felt so useless and bad for him as he was dry-heaving, his whole head & neck going beet-red, and it just looked like he was chocking. After a whole day in bed though, and another day of rest, as well as time to get over the sore muscles from skiing, he’s feeling a lot better!

We also got to have some good, deep, hard talks over the weekend. Marriage, with all that comes with it, with being close to another person, giving & trusting them with your heart, is scary and good, & such a blessing!!

So for the exciting news in this blog post: Tomorrow I am attending a photography workshop, with Kenny Kim & Ray Santana, in Miami! Tonight there is a social mixer for it as well. So stoked to start learning more & more!!

I’m sure there’ll be pictures to come. ;)
